Organizer Profile
I was born a Public Servant. I was the child ,in the family or neighborhood organizing, consulting or advocating for those I live among, their friends and families. I was the one, who would door knock, with the peition, or for the purpose of finding out what issue or concerns impact the neighoord (China Town, Washington, DC).
I was always organzing youths,to recognize we had rights, in school, at our community center, I tired with saying "Youths have Rights in the Home." I lost that battle. The parents did not go for that nor did mine.
.
(1) Allow the Community to identify their issue and concerns.
(2) It is not an I, It is a We.
(3) Have a plan, and Stay Focus.
Pat Fagin-Scott (Board Liaision), District of Columbia Board of Directors
Marcie Cohen (Acting Chair), District of Columbia Board of Directors
Mary Ann-Luby (Natioanl Law Center)
Paul Battle (Washington Inner City Self Help)
Valencia Muhammad (District of Columbia School Board)
PresidentObama Transitional Appointments, Former Mayor Barry and Mayor Adrian Fenty's Local Elections have most influence on my organizing career, and President Barack Obama, Transitional Team Appointments have most influence on my organizing career.
My accomplishments from my career in organzing: Organizing Public Housing Residents, Housing Choice Voucher Program Participants, Scatter Sites, and Low-moderate Income Residents towards Empowerment. As the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA)Family Commissioner, I am in process, of having every DCHA Family Community to have googlegroups per Community, using Potomac Garden Public Housing located in the District of Columbia,(family community) as the model. The goal: Public Housing Resident Googlegroup. Communication, was identified as a Weakness, for the Affordable Housing Residents throughout the United States.
The Barriers to successful community organizing in this country, is not allowing those you serve identified their community problems. Not understanding the Leadership abilities to a person's level of effectivness;the Law of Influence (how to measure influence);that leadership develops daily, and notin day.
