What brought you into the work?:

I answered an ad in the local free paper. That's the shortanswer. The long answer is this is what I am supposed to do. It is my purpose.

Share 3 lessons you have learned through your work in organizing.:

Groups of people armed with good information almost always come up with the right answer.
Listening is the key to inspiration.
We are only limited by our imagination and our fear.

Who has inspired you in your organizing?:

The everyday people I got to work with, who did amazing things.

What movements or political moments have most influenced your organizing career?:

The immigration reform movement of the mid 2000's has had a profound impact on my view of organizing, politics, and the world as a whole.

Share an accomplishment or list accomplishments from your career in organizing.:

I think my single greatest accomplishment has been helping people to recognize and express their own divinity. Human beings are beautiful, graceful creatures trapped by their own and our collective fears. Organizing helps some people overcome that. It is magic.

What are the barriers to successful community organizing in this country? How can we overcome these barriers?:

Fear is the greatest barrier.

Practically, we have to switch up our methodology to meet the times. Organzizers have become entranced by their organizations. I believe we should concentrate less on organizations and more on organizing.

Are you still in organizing? If not, in what other fields have you worked? What are you doing now?:

Yes. It is all I've ever done as an adult. I was a waiter in college.
