What brought you into the work?:

Frustration with the Democratic Party not standing up against the war in 2002, and fear of one party rule.

Share 3 lessons you have learned through your work in organizing.:

Be a reliable person.

Don't talk in terms of "taking over" an organization, instead talk about "renewing" it.

People have more in common than you think.

What movements or political moments have most influenced your organizing career?:

The conservatives!

Share an accomplishment or list accomplishments from your career in organizing.:

Getting the chance to start a statewide voter file project has been completely amazing.

What are the barriers to successful community organizing in this country? How can we overcome these barriers?:

Conservatives have effectively poisoned the well but turning people against their own democratic instincts, which I believe are as central to people's needs as food, housing and shelter. That's the level we need to re-engage people at.

Are you still in organizing? If not, in what other fields have you worked? What are you doing now?:

I was a software engineer for ten years before starting to do this full time. I'm incredibly grateful that this is my day job.
